1833 First Edition Small 8vo 195mm x 115mm viii,160pp, 36 steel-engraved views on 12 plates + 1 large folding map of North Wales published by John Seacome, Chester, engraved by J & A Walker, some spotting to frontispiece & most plates have small corner waterstains not affecting image, some foxing. Original printed boards rubbed with new water silk spine with new paper label.
The work is celebrated for its thirty-six miniature steel engravings, which depict iconic sites like the Menai Suspension Bridge, Conwy Castle, and the Llangollen Vale. Wright notes that despite the “small cabinet size” of these illustrations, they maintain a remarkable degree of “truth and expression”. This first edition remains an important primary source for historians studying the intersection of early tourism, Welsh cultural identity, and the industrial “modern wonders” that were then beginning to transform the landscape.
