Excavations of the Roman fort of Kanovium at Caerhun, conducted primarily by P.K. Baillie Reynolds from 1926–1929, revealed a 1st-century timber fort built around AD 77, later rebuilt in stone by the 2nd century. The site included a principia, bath-house, and a large surrounding vicus, with occupational evidence lasting into the 4th century.
