The 234 page introduction provides  background information on the proceedings of the courts,  as well as giving extensive notes on the treaty of Aberconway, which provided the impetus for Edward I’s legal interventions into Wales. The introduction ends by relating the events of the final breakout of hostilities between Edward I and Llywelyn ap Gruffydd, Prince of Wales, in 1282, and Edward’s ultimate conquest of Wales.
