Joseph Mayer (1803-1886) was a prominent English goldsmith, antiquary, and collector from Liverpool. Born in Newcastle-under-Lyme, he moved to Liverpool at age 20 and established a successful jewelry and silversmith business. Mayer’s passion for antiquities led him to amass a vast collection, which he later donated to the city of Liverpool and formed the basis of the Liverpool Museum.
