The original work, written by Sir John Wynn (1553-1627) in the early 17th century, aimed to document his ancestors and establish their noble lineage, tracing descent from Welsh princes like Owain Gwynedd.

The 1927 edition included “Memoirs” (notes on notable natives of Caernarvonshire) as an addendum.
